'Sense'ences

I love this stage that Hazel is in. She wants to have these grown up conversations with me, but she is still piecing her sentences together in the funniest, cutest ways that make no sense. Here was our conversation this morning.

Hazel: "Mom...What does business mean?"
Me: "Well, it means lots of things. Sometimes it means the place where someone works"
Hazel: "But it just means for the workers. Because they have to have emergencies on it."

Love her.

Moritifed Mommy Moment #13

I don't know if this qualifies as a Mommy Moment except that it happened to me and I am a Mommy. Plus...I guess I get to make the rules anyway since it's my blog.

I was at the gym this morning and got up the nerve to ask Ms. Perfect Body what her ab workout consisted of. She was very nice about it and came over to walk me through what her normal ab routine was. Then as she was getting ready to leave I jokingly said "Give me three weeks and I'll look like you!"

She laughed nervously and said "I don't know about THAT!"

Nice.

Just a few pics from Ghee's visit (that's Nathan's mom). We took her to the Grand Canyon and through Sedona to see the red rocks. It was a beautiful weekend, and the kids did surprisingly well on the drive. I'm sure they were trying to impress Ghee. ha.

PS- I have several new posts....don't stop here! Keep going! lol. Yes-I know it's sad that I am begging you to read my blog, but I have no shame. :)

Mortified Mommy Moment #78

I had to take Hazel out of church to go to the bathroom. When we came back in, she said (in a very loud and exasperated voice), "Why is that lady STILL talking?!"

Lots of Laughs...

I have plenty of them. Can't help it with these two characters that I live with. Tonight Owen ran in my room with a deck of cards and said "MOM! Look at all these dollars! I have a million dollars!" So I asked the inevitable question, "What are you going to buy?" and he gave the only reasonable answer...

"I'm going to buy a driving license and my own jeep......and a dinosaur as a pet."

Of course.

Hazel woke up from her nap crying because her nose was stuffy. This is something that she CAN NOT handle (she doesn't know how to blow her nose yet). I was getting a little impatient with her theatrics and said "Hazel- you need to just learn how to blow your nose!" and in a hurt, tearful voice she said "I caaaannn't. I don't have any blowers!"

Dancing Machines

Yesterday, the strangest thing happened. The children were ANGELS! Especially Owen. I told him it was time for homework and he did it. Then I said he needed to practice piano and he did it. Then when it was time to clean up his toys HE DID IT! And when we had to eat broccoli for dinner he did it. Brushed his teeth. Did his reading. Never complained about a single thing all afternoon/evening. Then he and Hazel cuddled up and watched a movie until bedtime. It was such a peaceful evening and I went to bed at 9:30 feeling happy and satisfied with my life. I can't remember an evening like this happening since I gave birth for the first time 6 years ago.

But before I even had a chance to blog about it, today arrived. Apparently they needed to make up for all that goodness from yesterday. We have been meltdown maniacs over here today. But you know....at least they keep my life interesting. :)

We had a garage sale in our apartment complex today, and Owen bought a new keyboard pad. Tonight, Nathan set it up for him and it was so funny. Owen and Hazel were yelling and arguing and talking, and as soon as Nathan turned on that keyboard they both got silent, stood up, and started to gyrate to the beat in a strange, hypnotized fashion. I tried to recreate it, but of course they froze in front of the camera. I did get a little dancing out of them, though. Sorry it's so dark. Enjoy.

Moritifed Mommy Moment #42

Hazel throwing herself on the floor of the post office in front of about 30 customers and screaming "MOMMY! I'm starting to go poop in my pants!"

I never have given in to Flashback Friday (mainly because I don't have any old pictures on my computer), so I am going to start my own regular posting subject....Mortified Mommy Moments. This is an old one, but I just wanted to get the ball rolling. :)

"Hula Hula!"

This is what Hazel said for a week before her party. She put in a lot of hours of practice to be the best hula girl she could be. She had a great party- good friends, tons of fun and yummy food and cake.

Because we just had some hotdogs and swam, it was the least stressful party I have ever thrown. Huge success. :)

Hazel's Big Day

Today is Hazel's birthday. To celebrate, I took her to a friend's house to play while I went to work! Aren't I a great mom?

But despite the guilt I felt, I think she had a pretty good day. She didn't know the difference, and lots of people called to sing to her and made her feel very special. She was very polite and told everyone thank you for wishing her a happy birthday. She even sang Happy Birthday to Aunt Paige when she called ( I think she was a little confused by the end of the night). I am having a VERY hard time accepting the fact that she is 3! :(

There wasn't a big celebration tonight...just a couple of presents and some brownies. HOWEVER- she will be having a luau on Friday with friends and family, so that should make up for the lack of hullabaloo today. Did I just make that word up?

Here she is opening her presents.

Despite her apparent apathy, she was thrilled with her gifts and had a hard time going to bed right after this. But at least we gave her brownies topped with HAPPY BIRTHDAY candles. She found these in a drawer a week ago and has been pulling them out several times a day insisting that they will go on her cake. I hope using them as a brownie topper sufficed.

After 8 blows, all the candles were finally blown out! Happy birthday sweet girl!!!

And a big birthday hug to Lauryn!!!

Owen and Hazel

This picture just totally captures their personalities! :)

Hazel said to me the other day "Why do you look so beautiful? Why do you look like a man?"

Gotta love that honesty.

Yesterday, Hazel fell asleep in the car and I needed to bring her in and lay her in her bed. This is always a tricky task. I was wondering how I was going to hold her and open the door without waking her up. When I reached our door, it was already cracked for me. I ran in and layed (laid?) Hazel down without incident. When I came out of her room, Owen was standing there with a very proud look on his face and he said "I opened the door for you because I knew you would already have your hands full."

That boy sure knows how to make a Mommy misty-eyed. He got lots of hugs and kisses for that one.

Happy Birthday to MEEE!!!!

Just needed a moment to celebrate myself! (please take note of my adorable new earrings from Chris and Erin). Thanks to everyone who made me feel special today. :)

Baby Doggie

We had so much fun with Uncle Chris and Aunt Erin on Saturday. Every time we hang out with them I bring my camera and say that I want some cute pics of them with the kids, but somehow I just never get around to it. Maybe it's because I know how much my brother despises pictures and I just don't want to recreate any Olan Mills experiences for him.

Anyway- this time I had to do it just so I could tell this adorable story! For the past couple of years, Hazel has been told that this precious little doggie is her cousin (and he IS). Herbie is part of our family, and so far he has been the only cousin to come from Chris and Erin.

Yes- it's not his finest moment, but we love him all the same. :) So I have been explaining to Owen and Hazel that Aunt Erin has a baby in her tummy, and Hazel was so excited to see Aunt Erin and learn more about this mystery. She ran up and gave Erin a hug and basically didn't leave her side for the rest of the day. She was sitting in Erin's lap and touching her stomach and this is the conversation that ensued:
Hazel: Is there a baby in there?
Erin: There is! It's your new cousin.
Chris: What do you think it is? A baby girl cousin or a baby boy cousin?
Hazel: A baby doggie. (They weren't fooling her for a second- she knows what kind of cousins they produce!)
She did say that it would be a girl doggie, though. So there is Hazel's prediction. I hope she won't be too disappointed.

To top off the excitement of seeing Chris and Erin, they decided to give Hazel her birthday presents a little early. She was thrilled (to say the least). I think if you click on the picture you can see her face expression close up. It was priceless.

She was so thrilled with her new Sleeping Beauty dress up gown and flashing ring. You should have heard her gasp of excitement!

She also got a little battery operated pig (that she immediately named Chloe) that has a little bottle. It's her new baby. She hasn't played with any of her dolls since she got Chloe. She just carries her around and coos "My baby" at her all day long. Since Erin gives birth to doggies, Hazel probably thinks she can give birth to a pig. This is going to make the "birds and the bees" talk a little more complicated.
