A taste of Arizona....

I was driving down a busy street and saw a tumbleweed that I just HAD to snap a picture of- I think it was as tall as the hood of the oncoming car. Do I live in the desert or what?!?

More Owenisms

I just love this....in the car, Owen said "Mom- if you didn't have those blinking arrows, how would we know where we were going?"

It took me a while to figure it out, but he apparently has (for years) thought that those little blinking arrows (my turn signals) were telling me where to go. He must have been really impressed when I explained to him that I controlled the car instead of the other way around. :)

Then in the store, Hazel was in the cart and Owen was walking beside me. She was hanging a ribbon out of the cart and he was running alongside trying to catch it. I said "Be careful, Owen. You might pull Hazel right out of the cart!" and he replied, "Or worse! I could break the ribbon!"

When I grow up, I'm going to be a telemarketer

Inevitably, as soon as I start to drift off for my two-hour-middle-of-the-day nap, my phone rings. I usually turn it off, but today I chanced it.

So, I pick it up and say "Hello?" in my most pleasant, "I wasn't asleep" voice and hear a fast-talking young man on the other end. Despite his thick accent, I am able to decipher that he wants to survey me about my local grocery stores. I interrupt him and (very sweetly) say "No thank you." He pauses long enough to take half a breath and proceeds to tell me how important this survey is to my well-being and the safety of my community. I again interrupt him to say "No thank you" in a voice slightly firmer than before. He then asks me if he can speak to the person in the household over the age of 18 that does the grocery shopping.

Seriously? Shouldn't he have asked that question to begin with?

At this point, all bets are off and I am no longer restraining myself. I say "Don't you understand what 'No thank you' means?"

And he says....get this...."Yes....is there someone else I can speak to?"

So then I resorted to yelling "NO! I am the only person here that you can speak to and I DON'T WANT TO DO A SURVEY!!!"

He's lucky I'm not a curser (most of the time).

Needless to say, I turned my phone off and went back to sleep.

Isms

Hazel: Mom- Dragons can walk and they can fly.
Me: That's right. But dragons are pretend.
Hazel: No! They're real.
Me: They are just something that is on cartoons or movies.
Hazel: And sometimes they are in Georgia.

Owen: Hey, Mom! An airplane is like an RV that flies!

A Few of Her Favorite Things...

One of Hazel's favorite things is the Lion King. She has loved that movie for a long time, but has recently been OBSESSED because of the new characters that G-Mommy found for her at a garage sale. She lines them all up on the table and watches the movie while holding the appropriate character for that scene and quoting his/her part.

Another one of Hazel's favorite things is the word dumb. Everything is dumb right now. For some reason she thinks this is better than the word "stupid" which we are not allowed to say. She gets corrected for saying "dumb" also, but this hasn't stopped her yet.

An example of what Hazel finds dumb:

(Hazel) "I hate our big blue car. It's so dumb. I want a pink car with flowers on it."

Which brings us to another favorite. Flowers. Everything with flowers is beautiful, and she thinks the ONLY way something looks beautiful is if it has flowers on it. If I say something is beautiful, she will say "No it isn't- it doesn't have flowers on it."

Hazel also loves her big brother. They fight like crazy, but she does and says EVERYTHING he does, so I know she thinks he is pretty awesome. She is very into copying him right now and it drives him insane. I can't wait to find a place to live where they will have their own rooms again. Owen says "When I have my own room, I am putting a sign on the door that says no girls can come in here" and Hazel says the same thing about a sign to keep out the boys. :) We'll see how long that will last.

Snacking Delight

Lorna Doone Shortbread Cookie Crisp 100 Calorie Packs

My dear friend Lorna decided to put her delicious shortbread cookies into these cute little 100 calorie packs. It's just a precious idea, but I'm not sure I understand the point since I'm pretty sure they were made specifically to dip into this blissful creation:

Nutella

Anyway- thank you Lorna. And thank you, Laura, for introducing me to Nutella. And thank you, Meredith, for teaching me that once you rip off the gold seal, you can dip almost anything into that jar and make your life complete.

I guess the three of you are to blame for the fact that I can't lose those last 10 lbs.

STALKING YOU

Okay- if your name is Maury Harris and you are reading this blog, I feel like I am your stalker. I even looked up your number on whitepages.com and it was your old number. This is the only other way I can think of to contact you!!!

We are trying to invite you to a tour of the firestation on Friday. I thought your boys would love that. Let me know if you are up to it. Email me at lind_will@hotmail.com

Thanks,
your stalker,
Lindsey
