I need as many suggestions as you can give me. I need to think of something creative to put in my kids' lunches that doesn't involve sandwiches or lunchables. I already thought of soup- I'm going to start that one as soon as it's under 100 degrees outside.
Any other ideas?!?!?!

Pasta Salad b/c it can be eaten hot/cold. I send quesadillas with my kids sometimes...i make them the morning of and they eat them cold, but love 'em. I also sometimes send string cheese, crackers/pretzels, fruit, carrots and a yogurt. Just some ideas.
My kids thought I was God for sending them a slice of cold pizza now and then.
A nice rule of thumb for kid's lunches is a heap of fruit. They fill up on the apple or orange wedges. I usually wrote silly rhymes on a napkin if they had something sticky to eat. After a while some of their friends wanted notes, too.
Here are some items that really do pass the AZ heat test for just the few hours 'til lunch:
Cheese crisp? (plainer cousin to the quesadilla)
Bagel and cream cheese and/or slice of ham?
Crackers & peanut butter?
Baby carrots and a min-ranch tub thing from Jack In The Box? (always save those accessories)
String cheese sticks?
Granola bars? Fruit roll-ups?
Mini pretzels? Those pre-pkg'd little tubs of fruit cocktail or mandarin oranges and a plastic fork?
A bag of popcorn?
Thick slice of banana bread and a separate piece of cheese wrapped in foil?
A giant snickers bar or a fist full of reese's pieces? (ha)
$2 for the cafeteria?
I'm getting hungry...
a muffin?:) what's wrong with a sandwich? i had one for lunch every day of my life in school...even better, i survived!
A spoonful of peaunut butter or cream cheese to dip stuff in - celery or pretzels.
Sunflower seeds (shelled)
a sandwich on a different kind of bread - bagel, crescent, pita
leftovers from dinner - chicken drumsticks, lasagna (cold is fine)
Cindi took all my other good ideas.
my first thought was string cheese... it will make it to lunch time without going bad. or pretzels with nutella. i liked the cold pizza and popcorn ideas i read here. plus i saw a commercial about that go-gurt stuff being made to freeze and it will thaw by lunch time for your kid...
If you will recall the awesome 80s movie "Breakfast Club", Claire successfully carries Sushi to lunch at school...so if you really want your kids to be cool...you know, that's an option to consider.
Some of us are not as clever as Ms. Calizona and we don't write our own notes, we just tell our kids to write them and sign our name so that the other kids won't think their mom is lame. It's more efficient and they can give themselves whatever compliments they like.
Gradually, as they get older, you train your children to not eat. Mine don't expect any sort of breakfast anymore and I've almost got them weaned off of lunch and on to an after school snack instead followed by a lite dinner, which is often take-out.
Look, don't compare yourselves unfavorably to me ladies, not everyone can be an amazing mom. Some people have a different skill set. Deal with it.
What the heck? You can train kids to avoid eating? Why didn't I hear about this?
And since when is take-out considered a "light" dinner? Man, I'm missing out.
We used to know a kid who enjoyed grabbing a jar of mayonnaise out of the fridge and digging in with a giant serving spoon for his after school snack.
I suppose packaging the same for a lunch would be problematic, though.
