Moritifed Mommy Moment #42
I never have given in to Flashback Friday (mainly because I don't have any old pictures on my computer), so I am going to start my own regular posting subject....Mortified Mommy Moments. This is an old one, but I just wanted to get the ball rolling. :)

"Hula Hula!"
Because we just had some hotdogs and swam, it was the least stressful party I have ever thrown. Huge success. :)

Hazel's Big Day
Today is Hazel's birthday. To celebrate, I took her to a friend's house to play while I went to work! Aren't I a great mom?
But despite the guilt I felt, I think she had a pretty good day. She didn't know the difference, and lots of people called to sing to her and made her feel very special. She was very polite and told everyone thank you for wishing her a happy birthday. She even sang Happy Birthday to Aunt Paige when she called ( I think she was a little confused by the end of the night). I am having a VERY hard time accepting the fact that she is 3! :(
There wasn't a big celebration tonight...just a couple of presents and some brownies. HOWEVER- she will be having a luau on Friday with friends and family, so that should make up for the lack of hullabaloo today. Did I just make that word up?
Here she is opening her presents.
Despite her apparent apathy, she was thrilled with her gifts and had a hard time going to bed right after this. But at least we gave her brownies topped with HAPPY BIRTHDAY candles. She found these in a drawer a week ago and has been pulling them out several times a day insisting that they will go on her cake. I hope using them as a brownie topper sufficed.
After 8 blows, all the candles were finally blown out! Happy birthday sweet girl!!!
And a big birthday hug to Lauryn!!!

Owen and Hazel
This picture just totally captures their personalities! :)
Hazel said to me the other day "Why do you look so beautiful? Why do you look like a man?"
Gotta love that honesty.
Yesterday, Hazel fell asleep in the car and I needed to bring her in and lay her in her bed. This is always a tricky task. I was wondering how I was going to hold her and open the door without waking her up. When I reached our door, it was already cracked for me. I ran in and layed (laid?) Hazel down without incident. When I came out of her room, Owen was standing there with a very proud look on his face and he said "I opened the door for you because I knew you would already have your hands full."
That boy sure knows how to make a Mommy misty-eyed. He got lots of hugs and kisses for that one.

Baby Doggie
Anyway- this time I had to do it just so I could tell this adorable story! For the past couple of years, Hazel has been told that this precious little doggie is her cousin (and he IS). Herbie is part of our family, and so far he has been the only cousin to come from Chris and Erin.
She was so thrilled with her new Sleeping Beauty dress up gown and flashing ring. You should have heard her gasp of excitement!
She also got a little battery operated pig (that she immediately named Chloe) that has a little bottle. It's her new baby. She hasn't played with any of her dolls since she got Chloe. She just carries her around and coos "My baby" at her all day long. Since Erin gives birth to doggies, Hazel probably thinks she can give birth to a pig. This is going to make the "birds and the bees" talk a little more complicated.

Game Day
I was a little embarassed that I had bragged so much to Nathan about his abilities (and Nathan was a little frustrated to say the least), but I thought it was hilarious. It made for a great memory, and we had fun yelling for the rest of the team. He did actually start to run back and forth towards the end of the game, so that made me proud enough to give him a hug and a high five (and lots of praise). He says he will do better at the next game now that he knows what to expect. To our dismay, the Hornets (Owen's team) lost to the Gators. We have no idea how big of a loss it was- it was kind of hard to keep track. But I will say that Sasquatch (the nickname I gave the girl on the other team who appeared to be about eight years old) scored a couple of goals that looked Beckham inspired. We were thrilled to have Uncle Chris and Aunt Erin there to cheer Owen on (although I had to have a little talk with Erin about yelling degrading remarks to the opposing team's kids...haha). All in all it was a great day and we are so proud of Owen. He looked darn cute in those cleats and shin guards.
