"Bumblebee and a pink poodle!!!!"

For Halloween, we went to a block party in my friend Bekah's neighborhood. When we went trick-or treating around her block, we stopped at one door where a sweet little old man answered and was trying to guess what everyone was dressed as. The boy in front of us was Thomas the Train and the man said "Oh- Spongebob!" if that gives you any idea of his guessing abilities.

So our turn comes, and my kids step forward. He says "Ohhhh...what do we have here? A princess and a space man!" and Hazel yelled, "Nooooo! Bumblebee and a pink poodle!!!!" but he just smiled and nodded and moved on to the next set of kids.
I think the space man was a pretty good guess for a guy his age who has probably never seen Transformers, but what kind of princess carries around a big dog head?! Weird.

We have been on a sugar high for 4 straight days...how bout you?

G-Mommy brings us Halloween....

The next few posts will be catching up on my mom's visit. We had tons of fun and I had to rest from it all for a couple of days before returning to the real world.

I am ashamed to say that before my mother arrived, I had NO Halloween decorations. It's just not a "holiday" that I really get into. But my kids adore all the creepy things that come with this non-holiday. So we made a run to Wal-Mart and bought a bunch of marked down decorations (that's the plus when you are shopping three days before Halloween!). The kids have been thrilled with the spider web on our porch. They threw a bunch of bugs and snakes and such and shrieked with joy every time one stuck.

Oh, the happiness of which I deprive them on a regular basis. Thanks for setting me straight, Mom. ;)
Trying to pose for a picture when all they really want
to do is rip that package open and get started!

The finished product!

Conversation

In the car after our trunk-or-treat at the church...

Owen (with as much passion as he could muster): "Trunk-or-treat and Halloween are the best two days of my life!"

Hazel (in between smacks of Laffy Taffy): "Sounds good to me!"

Time Out

My mommy is here for a visit so I probably won't post for a while! :) But I am still enjoying everyone else's blog.

Daddy's litte helper...

Hazel loves to help in the kitchen. It makes her feel SOOO big to set the table and help prepare the food. I love this age...when they can still be manipulated! lol.

Isms

Owen was playing hide and seek outside with our neighborhood boys and being his usual bossy self. I said "Owen...stop being so bossy! Your friends aren't going to want to play with you anymore if you keep yelling orders at them."

He said "But he isn't counting right" and I said "Maybe that's as high as he can count!" and Owen said "But that's not the right way. I'm the one who thought up this game."

I said "Owen...you didn't make up hide and seek."

and, with his hands on his hips, he said in his most annoyed and challenging tone "Then who did?!"

Don't you just love how he thinks he is the master of the universe?!

I guess Hazel has heard us say "When I was a kid...." a few times. Now she thinks that she gets to tell stories about when she was a grown-up. She will say "Mom....a long time ago when me and Owen were grown-ups and you and Daddy were little kids....." and then she will make up some random story. So funny.

Also- here's a Mortified Mommy Moment involving Hazel. Those of you who know me and are aware of my paranoia about my man arms will get a kick out of this.

Hazel was rubbing my arm yesterday and said "Get all this Daddy hair off your arm!"

At the dinner table....

Owen: Have you ever seen a geode split in half?

Hazel: I had a dream about a geedode. There was a little man with a big frowny face and he was pushing down....

Owen: Did the little men have hats on?!?!?

Hazel: uh-huh.

Owen: I had a dream about those guys chasing me!!!

Then they both just stare at each other in amazement.
